District Crisis Group Conducts Off-Site Emergency Mock Drill at Joda
Joda, August 8, 2024: An off-site emergency mock drill was conducted on Wednesday at Joda Municipality by the District Crisis Group (DCG), Keonjhar.
The drill, in accordance with Rule-9 of the Chemical Accident (Emergency Planning, Preparedness, and Response) Rule 1996, was organized by the District Administration and coordinated by Ferro Alloys Plant, Joda of Tata Steel.
The mock drill was overseen by Shri Sukanta Majhi, Sub-Collector, Champua and witnessed active participation from key members of the DCG, including Shri Priyadarshi Joshi, Tahasildar, Barbil; Shri Umesh Chandra Sahu, Executive Officer, Joda Municipality; Shri Biswajeet Ray, Executive Officer, Barbil Municipality; Shri U. C. Sutar, Deputy Director of Factories & Boilers, Jajpur Division; Shri Kedar Hansda, Assistant Director of Factories & Boilers, Keonjhar; and Shri Dilip Behera, Station Officer, Beleipada Fire Station.
Representatives from Jindal Steel Power and the Head-Cum-Factory Manager along with the team from Tata Steel were also present.
The primary objective of the mock drill was to evaluate the preparedness and response capabilities of the district administration in handling potential emergency scenarios. By simulating a chemical accident, the exercise aimed to enhance coordination among various stakeholders and ensure the safety of the people, community, environment, and assets in the region.
The drill serves as a vital component of the district’s emergency response strategy, reinforcing the commitment to safeguarding public health and safety in case of any real emergency.
