Cuttack: A special police drive was conducted today, March 20, 2025, at SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) under the direction of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Cuttack Urban Police District (UPD). The operation aimed to catch middlemen (dalals) who were misleading patients and directing them to private clinics in Cuttack.
During the raid, a team led by the Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Mangalabag Police Station successfully caught two middlemen red-handed on the hospital campus. These individuals were found extorting money from patients and their families by making false promises of better treatment. They attempted to convince patients to leave SCBMCH and seek treatment at private hospitals instead.
Following the arrests, a criminal case has been registered at Mangalabag Police Station under Case No. 106, dated March 20, 2025. The case falls under sections 319(2), 318(2), 308(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
The police have assured that such drives will continue to prevent fraud and protect patients from being misled.
