Minister suggested developing digital application for sanitation monitoring
Bhubaneswar, 20th March 2025 : A high level meeting on improvement of sanitation in ULBs was held chaired by Dr Krushna Chandra Mahapatra,Minister Housing & Urban Development. The meeting discussed various sanitation issues in the Urban areas.
The status of CBG plant establishment in five Municipal Corporations, the Puri-Konark Cluster, and the Boudhgarh-Sonepur Cluster was reviewed. Minister Dr Mahapatra urged officials to expedite the process.
The Minister proposed setting up integrated waste processing complexes in Municipal Corporations and selected Municipalities. These complexes should include all types of processing plants along with CBG plants to reduce transportation and infrastructure costs.
Dr Mahapatra instructed for renovation and refurbishment of all non-functional old toilets and e-toilets under Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation on priority. Officials were instructed to expedite the processing of accumulated garbage at TTS near Sainik School, Bhubaneswar and urgent operationalization of the mega waste processing centre at Palasuni.
The Minister suggested developing a digital application for sanitation monitoring in all Municipal Corporations and select Municipalities, similar to the existing Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation App.He also recommended integrating all such applications into the SUJOG portal of the Housing & Urban Development (H&UD) Department.
The Principal Secretary Housing & Urban Development Smt Usha Padhee suggested that a model agreement be shared with Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) to facilitate execution with Self-Help Groups (SHGs) responsible for the operation and maintenance of public toilets and facilitating Urban Services.It was decided to enhance community involvement in sanitation improvement efforts across all ULBs.
Among others Director Municipal Administration Arindam Dakua , Addl Secy Binay Dash , Commissioner CMC , City Engineer BMC , other concerned officer and development partners were present in the meeting held in 3rd Floor Conference hall of Kharabela Bhawan.
