TPNODL Sets New Benchmarks in Safety, Reliability & Infrastructure Excellence

Balasore – August 06, 2025 – TP Northern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPNODL), a joint venture of Tata Power & the Government of Odisha, continues to redefine power distribution excellence across Northern Odisha serving over 99 lakh citizens with a consumer base of 19.9 lakh across 27,920 sq. km.

In just four years since inception, TPNODL has emerged as one of the national leaders in operational excellence, securing an A+ rating in the Ministry of Power’s Integrated Ranting of Distribution Utilities in FY24. This recognition reflects unwavering commitment towards safety, reliability & customer-centric innovations.

With a cumulative capex of ₹1295.27 Cr. until FY25, TPNODL has invested ₹137.74 Cr. in safety & Security compliance through key initiatives like installation of 2,850+ DTR fencing & 54 Nos. PSS boundary walls (Out of 60 Unfenced), 1036.65 Km Defective service cable replacement, establishment of Fire Pump House – Water Hydrant System at central stores. Additionally, 12,500+ interposing Poles were installed to ensure safe clearances, while Safety HOTT (Hands On Technical Training) was set up at all the 5 Circles (1 in each circle) & LOTO (Lockout/tagout) systems are deployed for ensuring safety during work execution. Drone driven safety surveillance, digital permit-to-work, usage of safety PPE by workforce, safety zone creation at work site and mandatory safety training for each & every staff member reflects TPNODL’s “Safety First” approach. On efficiency, ₹126.55 Cr. was invested in loss reduction, including conversion of 1,343.65km of LT bare conductors to insulated lines, reducing technical losses and boosting safety. Establishment of a Meter Testing Lab ensuring accuracy, reliability & compliance in energy measurement and installation of 2.9 Lakhs of Smart Meters empowering consumers with real-time energy usage data and enabling remote monitoring and billing.

To strengthen network reliability & to meet growing demand, TPNODL has invested ₹324.36 Cr. in reliability & ₹330.38 Cr. in load growth initiatives. Reliability works include upgradation of 31 primary substations, refurbishing 550 distribution transformers, installation of 227 auto reclosers, 1540 fault passage indicators & 4055 LV (Low Voltage) protection units. Fault detection & service continuity have also been improved with the introduction of voltage regulators, FLC (Fault Location Cell) Vans, GIS (Geographic Information System) mapping, mobile transformer trolleys & ultrasound scanning. To cater load growth, TPNODL has augmented 26 power transformers & 676 distribution transformers, installed 363 new DTRs & 14 new PTRs & also added 301.01 Ckm of 11 KV and 128.88 Ckm of 33 KV lines. LT network has been expanded by 174.87 km, including conversion of 77 single-phase Distribution Transformers to three-phase, providing sturdy infrastructure for industrial growth & rural electrification.
