Tata Steel Meramandali employees lead community efforts to protect cattle and promote cleanliness
Mramandali, August 7, 2025: In a commendable act of community service and protecting stray cattle, employees of Tata Steel Meramandali carried out a voluntary initiative aimed at reducing road accidents involving stray cattle along National Highway 55 and nearby village roads surrounding the TSM plant located at Narendrapur under Odapada Block of Dhenkanal district.
It was observed that stray cattle often rest or sleep on roads, posing serious safety risks to themselves and to motorists—especially during low-light hours, late nights. etc. Recognizing this concern, TSM’s Infrastructure & Services Department team proactively addressed the issue by fitting 80 cattle with retroreflective bands. This simple yet effective measure significantly improves visibility for drivers on the highway, helping prevent collisions and protect lives.
Similarly, under the leadership of Prakash Sanjay, Chief, Security, Tata Steel Kalinganagar & Tata Steel Meramandali, a cleanliness drive was organised at the Kantabania Market near the plant. The initiative was part of Tata Steel’s continued commitment to fostering hygiene and environmental responsibility in its operational areas.
The drive was carried out in close coordination with the Adminstration department, Tata Steel Foundation, and the Kantabania Police, with active participation from community members. As part of the effort, dustbins were distributed across key locations in the market to encourage responsible waste disposal among vendors and visitors.
Local intellectuals from Kusupanga and Mangalpur gram panchayats, joined hands in the drive, reflecting strong community engagement. The program also featured interactive sessions with local vendors and residents, aimed at raising awareness about the importance of cleanliness and sustainable waste management practices.
