Bamnipal,August 20, 2025: Tata Steel’s Ferro Alloys and Minerals Division (FAMD) has taken another stride in its sustainability journey by introducing an Electric Vehicle (EV) for employee transportation at its Ferro Alloys Plant (FAP) in Bamnipal. The initiative underscores the company’s commitment to building a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future.

The newly launched EV will provide eco-friendly and convenient transport for employees within and outside the Plant, helping reduce overall carbon emissions. With zero tailpipe emissions, the EV will not only contribute to reducing the Plant’s carbon footprint but also promote a healthier workplace environment.

Inaugurating the initiative, Pankaj Satija, Executive-In-charge, FAMD said, “Every step matter and we are taking steps across all three scopes – Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3. The introduction of electric mobility is also one such step towards reshaping how industries can adopt clean energy alternatives while caring for people and the planet.”

The initiative is aligned with the steel major’s ambitious target of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2045 and complements several other ongoing green practices within the Ferro Alloys and Minerals Division, including renewable energy integration, waste utilization, and biodiversity conservation.

Notably, FAMD earlier has conducted trial run of EV trucks at its FAP Jajpur for movement of ferro chrome and reductant for its shorter haul sectors. It has also integrated electric run forklifts in its ferro chrome export operations at VPL Container Freight Station, Vizag.

The Division has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Comfit Enersav Private Limited, a leading provider of heat and energy recovery solutions, and Yantra Harvest, a prominent energy-saving solutions company, for implementation of the Waste Heat Recovery (WHR) project at it’s FAP in Athagarh. It has also replaced the use of furnace oil with Piped Natural Gas (PNG) at its Ferro Alloys Plant in Jajpur.
