Contraband worth ₹1.59 crore seized on Day 20 of enforcement drive

Bhubaneswar, Sept. 21: A Statewide Enforcement Special Drive by excise officials today reported fresh seizures of contraband valued at approximately ₹1.59 crore.

According to official data, 206 cases were registered during the day, leading to the arrest of 113 persons. The enforcement teams seized 11,309 bulk litres (BL) of illicitly distilled liquor and 437 BL of duty-paid liquor. In addition, 99,194 litres of fermented wash was destroyed at various locations.

The operation also resulted in the seizure of 56 litres of duplicate liquor, 250 kg of Mohua flowers, and 23 vehicles used for illegal transportation.

Excise officials further confirmed that 12 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act were booked. These included the seizure of 195 kg of cannabis (ganja) and 220 grams of heroin.

Authorities said the sustained drive has significantly disrupted the illegal liquor and narcotics trade, and further action will continue in the coming days.
