Bhubaneswar: Tata Power successfully organized the Tata Power Climate Crew Earth Run at the iconic Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar, bringing together over 4,000 participants in an early-morning call to action for climate responsibility in 5Km, 10Km and 21Km formats. Designed as a free-of-cost public sustainability initiative, the run transformed the stadium and surrounding routes into a powerful demonstration of collective commitment towards a cleaner and healthier planet.
The Climate Crew Earth Run, organised in association with Radio Mirchi, marks a major milestone in sustainability journey of Tata Power and Mirchi aimed at inspiring citizens to adopt responsible, climate-positive lifestyles. The marathon is aligned with Tata Power’s philosophy of ‘Sustainable is Attainable’, underpinned by the company’s 44% green energy portfolio and its wide range of sustainable business solutions, including solar rooftops, EV charging infrastructure, and smart home solutions.
In Odisha, Tata Power’s DISCOMs, operating under a public–private partnership with the Government of Odisha, serve a population of approximately 4.7 crore with reliable and quality power supply. Through these DISCOMs, Tata Power is also actively encouraging consumers to adopt planet-friendly energy conservation practices, reinforcing the transition towards a more sustainable energy ecosystem.
Sustainability at Tata Power is driven from within through its flagship Climate Crew initiative—an employee-led engagement platform aligned with the Government of India’s Mission LiFE. Since its inception, over 50% of Tata Power’s employees have actively joined Climate Crew, becoming climate champions who promote sustainable practices at work and at home. The initiative has delivered measurable impact in carbon footprint reduction, energy and water conservation, and waste reduction through everyday behavioural changes. This year, Tata Power has expanded Climate Crew participation to employee families, customers, partners and suppliers, supported by a curated mobile application available on both Android and iOS platforms.
The event witnessed the presence of eminent dignitaries including Mr. Siddhant Mohapatra, MLA and Actor-Director; Mr. Bijay Swain, OAS, Additional Secretary – Sports and Youth Services, Odisha; Dr. Saranjit Singh, Vice Chancellor, KIIT; Ms. Loma Swain, Paralympics winner; Mr. Ravi Kumar, Olympian and Commonwealth Games medallist and Ms. Arundhati Biswal, Olympian, and Mrs. Preeti Nihalani, Chief Operating Officer, Entertainment Network India Limited.
Representing Tata Power’s leadership were Mr. Himal Tewari, CHRO & Chief – Sustainability and CSR; Mr. Gajanan Kale, Chief – Odisha DISCOMs and CEO – TPNODL; Mr. Arvind Singh, CEO – TPCODL; and Mr. Amit Garg, CEO – TPSODL. The event drew enthusiastic participation from Tata Power employees, their families, customers, and partners, reinforcing the collective spirit of community-led climate action.
“The Tata Power Climate Crew Earth Run is a powerful and timely initiative that brings together citizens, families, and communities in a shared commitment to the planet. Today, we ran for Mother Earth—because while one mother gives us life, Mother Earth sustains us every single day. This run is a reminder that caring for her cannot be limited to a single day or event; it must become a way of life. Initiatives like Climate Crew inspire people to take small yet meaningful steps, prioritising health, reducing consumption, and embracing recycling and reusing—to build a cleaner, healthier future for generations to come.”
Commenting on the overwhelming response, Mr. Himal Tewari, CHRO & Chief – Sustainability & CSR, Tata Power said, “Odisha embodies a powerful blend of heritage, progress, and community spirit; values that resonate deeply with Tata Power’s sustainability journey. The overwhelming participation in the Climate Crew Earth Run reflects the state’s collective commitment to healthier lifestyles and climate-conscious choices. Our mass sustainability engagement initiative, Climate Crew, is now evolving into an open-access climate action platform for our communities, extending beyond employees and their families to empower citizens to actively participate in the sustainability journey. Through the Climate Crew app, individuals can easily adopt, track, and sustain climate-positive habits, transforming awareness into everyday action and reinforcing our belief that the energy transition must be inclusive, participative, and firmly rooted in communities.”
More than a sporting event, the Earth Run emerged as a visible and participative platform for climate awareness. The event reinforced the idea that sustainability can be seamlessly integrated into everyday choices—how we move, consume, and engage with our surroundings. Reflecting Tata Power’s Pay Autention initiative, a dedicated race category was also introduced to enable the active participation of persons with disabilities (PwDs), reinforcing the company’s commitment to equitable and inclusive climate action.
What set the Climate Crew Earth Run apart was its sustainability-first execution. Event materials were designed for maximum reuse and recycling, 5 km race bibs were plantable, and waste management partner Skrap ensured responsible waste segregation and post-event clean-up, restoring the venue to its original condition. These measures reflected Tata Power’s commitment to making sustainability practical and attainable.
The Bhubaneswar edition of the Climate Crew Earth Run has laid a strong foundation for building a recurring citizen movement around climate responsibility. By bringing together more than 4,000 people under a single banner of climate action, Tata Power has demonstrated how a simple idea—backed by intent and community participation—can drive meaningful impact. As the Climate Crew community continues to grow, Tata Power remains committed to creating platforms that enable citizens to come together, take action and keep the goal of a greener planet at the centre of everyday life.
