Odisha Vigilance Nabs Accountant for Accepting Rs. 20,000 Bribe in Kendrapara
Kendrapara, 17th March 2025: Odisha Vigilance today apprehended Md. Firoz Khan, Accountant-cum-Supporting Staff at the Office of the Block Education Officer (BEO), Rajkanika, District Kendrapara, while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 20,000 from a complainant. The bribe was taken in exchange for processing a bill amounting to Rs. 1.93 lakh and for releasing the remaining payment owed to a Self-Help Group (SHG) that had previously supplied school uniforms to schools in Rajkanika Block as per government terms and conditions.
The tainted bribe money of Rs. 20,000 was recovered from Md. Khan’s possession and seized during the operation.
Following the trap, Odisha Vigilance officials are conducting searches at one location linked to Md. Khan to investigate suspected disproportionate assets.
In connection with the incident, Cuttack Vigilance PS Case No. 5/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered. The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be shared as the inquiry progresses.
