DSYS Successfully Concludes Annual District Level Talent Identification Programme
Bhubaneswar, 3 April 2024 : The Sports and Youth Services Department (DSYS) recently concluded its annual district level talent identification programme across various disciplines across districts. The programme, aimed at identifying and nurturing young talent between the ages of 8 to 14 years, ran from March 22 to April 1.
With an overwhelming response from aspiring athletes, over 28,000 children enrolled for the programme across the state. Of these, an impressive 10,954 students actively participated, showcasing their skills and enthusiasm in games such as khokho, various disciplines of athletics, football, and volleyball.
Notably, the programme witnessed remarkable participation from both genders, with over 2,000 girls and approximately 8,000 boys displaying their sporting prowess across various disciplines. Athletics emerged as the frontrunner, drawing the highest number of participants.
The next phase of the programme will see selected players advancing to the state-level talent hunt, scheduled to take place in the near future. This crucial stage aims to further identify and refine the talents of these young athletes.
Athletics coach Megha Parmar has called ‘the programme instrumental in scouting best talent from the remotest parts and polishing them as future sports stars.’ ‘This is a great initiative to enhance and upscale sports talent in the state.’ she further added.
The selected participants will undergo comprehensive training and development at the hostels of DSYS, ensuring holistic growth and preparation for future endeavors in the sporting arena.
