Former Subarnapur Municipality Official Convicted in Vigilance Corruption Case
Subarnapur, 18th March 2025: In a significant development, Sri Sibaram Sahu, Former Assistant Tax Collector (Retired) of Subarnapur Municipality, Subarnapur, has been convicted in a vigilance corruption case. The Hon’ble Special Judge, Vigilance, Bolangir, sentenced him to two years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs. 10,000.
Sri Sahu was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(c)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 409 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for the misappropriation of government funds collected towards water supply connection fees, construction fees, license fees for cabins, weekly market fees, and parking fees. Despite issuing receipts to taxpayers, Sri Sahu failed to deposit the collected funds in the Municipality’s Daily Collection Register as mandated under the Orissa Municipality Rule-1953.
Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance will now approach the competent authority to initiate the stoppage of Sri Sahu’s pension as per legal provisions.
