New Delhi : Fortis Chemicals Pvt. Ltd. on Tuesday signed a technology licensing agreement with the CSIR–Central Road Research Institute for an innovative pothole repair solution aimed at faster, greener and more durable road maintenance across the country.

The agreement, executed at the CSIR Science Centre here, pertains to the patented “Two-Pack On-Site Pothole Filling Mix”, a cold-mix technology developed by CSIR-CRRI. The signing took place in the presence of Dr. N. Kalaiselvi, Director-General of CSIR and Secretary, DSIR; Prof. Manoranjan Parida, Director, CSIR-CRRI; and Dr. Siksha Swaroopa Kar.

Officials said the emulsion-based, solvent-free technology allows potholes to be repaired quickly without the need for hot-mix plants, enabling year-round application. Besides improving durability, the method significantly cuts carbon emissions compared to conventional hot-mix asphalt, aligning with India’s sustainability goals.

Under the agreement, Fortis Chemicals has been granted exclusive rights to manufacture and market the technology across India. The collaboration is expected to help urban local bodies and highway authorities reduce repair time, costs and traffic disruption while improving road safety.

Fortis chemicals also showcased the products and technology development in bitumen at the 84th Indian Roads Congress (IRC) Annual Session held in Bhubaneswar, which was visited by Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways. During the event, the minister announced road projects worth ₹1,000 crore for Odisha.

Industry experts said the partnership marks a significant step towards modernising road maintenance practices and could play a key role in building more resilient and sustainable road infrastructure nationwide.
