The theme for World Physiotherapy Day 2025, observed on 8 September —“Healthy Ageing”—focuses on how physiotherapy helps prevent frailty and falls, while promoting strength, balance, and mobility in ageing populations. The event served as a platform to create awareness around proactive physical activity and rehabilitation strategies that help individuals stay active, independent, and pain-free, as they grow older. With India witnessing a steady rise in its ageing population, the message resonated deeply with both clinicians and participants.
Mr. Douglas Eagar spoke on the importance of physiotherapy in elite sports training and long-term athlete care. His presence added international depth to the occasion.
A special address by Dr. P P Mohanty, Director of SVNIRTAR, highlighted the broader impact of physiotherapy on public health. “Efforts like these are vital to raising awareness about the role of physical rehabilitation in preserving mobility and independence,” noted Dr. Mohanty.
Dr. Saktimaya Mahapatra, Cluster Director, Manipal Hospital Bhubaneswar, emphasized the critical role of physiotherapists in today’s healthcare landscape, saying, “Physiotherapy is not just treatment—it is a vital part of lifelong recovery and wellness. Physiotherapists support patients through every stage—from prevention and diagnosis to rehabilitation—ensuring mobility, function, and dignity at every age.”
