Odisha Targets Industrial Growth Through Mineral Processing and Value Addition

Bhubaneswar : The Government of Odisha reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing value addition and promoting sustainable growth in the mining and construction sectors, as highlighted on the second day of the CII Odisha Mining and Construction Equipment Expo (OMCE) 2026.Addressing industry stakeholders at CII OMCE 2026, Shri Sampad Chandra Swain, Hon’ble Minister for Industries, Technical Education and Skill Development, Government of Odisha, emphasized the state’s strategic shift from mere mineral extraction to strengthening downstream industries and value-added processes.

“Odisha is not only focusing on extraction but also on enhancing value addition across the mining sector. We are also making steady progress in the rare earth domain, which holds immense potential for future industrial growth,” the Minister stated.Organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the three-day OMCE 2026, inaugurated on March 19, marks a significant milestone for Eastern India’s mining and construction ecosystem. The event has convened industry leaders, policymakers, technology providers, and investors to highlight innovative solutions and foster opportunities for collaboration.

Highlighting Odisha’s industrial progress, Shri Swain stated that foundation stones have been laid for 111 industrial projects under the current government, many of which are already under construction. He further pointed out that rapid infrastructure development across the state is driving demand for technologically advanced mining and construction equipment.“With rapid industrialization and infrastructure expansion, the need for advanced equipment is growing. Platforms like CII OMCE provide an excellent opportunity for stakeholders to collaborate, exchange ideas, and explore new business avenues,” he added.

The Minister also engaged in detailed discussions with participating companies, focusing on the future scope of mining and construction equipment in Odisha. He expressed confidence that such platforms would foster long-term growth for both equipment manufacturers and industrial players.CII OMCE 2026 has attracted over 150 exhibitors with a display area of 20,000 sq.mtrs witnessed by more than 10,000 business visitors, the expo showcased wide array of cutting-edge technologies and solutions across mining, construction, and infrastructure sector. The co-located Odisha Metal Expo 2026 has further strengthened industry participation by bringing together stakeholders from the metals and allied industries.The event will continue for one more day and featured 150 B2B meetings along with networking opportunities aimed at promoting innovation, collaboration, and investments.CII OMCE 2026 is poised to emerge as a premier regional platform, reinforcing Odisha’s position as a key hub for industrial growth and enabling the next phase of development in mining and infrastructure through sustainable and technology-driven practices.
