PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijili Yojana: Empowering Odisha with Roof Top Solar Panels

The PM Surya Ghar Scheme is a transformative initiative aimed at promoting rooftop solar installations to make renewable energy accessible and affordable for all. With an easy application process through the official portal, the scheme is designed to simplify adoption and accelerate installations across the state and country.

Key benefits of the scheme include a central government Subsidy of up to ₹78,000 for installations of up to 3 kW, and a state government subsidy in Odisha of up to an additional ₹60,000 for installations of up to 3 kW, which is likely to be activated in the coming days. Central subsidies are released within 7-15 days in most cases. Affordable loans from public sector banks are also available at an attractive rate of interest of 7% for amounts up to ₹2 lakh. Many consumers have provided feedback about a significant reduction in their monthly electricity bills.

Currently, 1,893 rooftop solar installations have been completed in Odisha, contributing to the state’s green energy transition, with a target of 3 lakh solar panel installations by 2027 in the state. This initiative supports the country’s goal of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. The scheme also emphasizes environmental sustainability by reducing the global carbon footprint, promoting renewable energy, and creating multiple job opportunities across the country.

A Vendor’s Meet was organized by REC Limited, Regional Office, Bhubaneswar at Hotel Grand Siba, Sambalpur in TPWODL, jurisdiction on 24nd January 2025. In addition to vendors, the CEO of TPWODL, CEO of OREDA, SLBC/Bank partners attended the event.

A presentation was made by REC Limited and the status of installations in the TPWODL area was discussed. The gathering was further addressed by the CPM, REC Bhubaneswar, CEO, TPWODL and vendors queries were addressed through a Q&A session.

Since all the stakeholders involved in the successful implementation of the scheme were present, various issues related to different bottlenecks were discussed. The vendors’ problems were heard, and potential solutions were discussed.

The meeting concluded with infusion of new zeal in the vendors and the state may see increase in number of installations in the coming days especially with the increase in total subsidy (State& Centre) thereby making the Muft Bijili dream of a domestic consumer turn into reality in a shortest period of time.
