Tata Power appoints Deepesh Nanda as President-Renewables and CEO & MD of TPREL; Ashish Khanna moves as President, Generation business
Mumbai: Tata Power, one of India’s largest integrated power companies, today announced the appointment of Mr. Deepesh Nanda as President-Renewables and CEO & MD of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, with effect from November 1, 2023.
A distinguished leader in the energy sector, Mr. Nanda brings with him 28 years of extensive experience across companies like GE, Flowserve and Tyco. Mr. Nanda joins Tata Power from GE Gas Power, where he was the Chief Executive Officer for South Asia, overseeing operations in India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, and Nepal. He was additionally President & CEO of GE’s Aero-derivative Gas Turbine business segment for Asia. A distinguished alumnus of Annamalai University, India, Mr. Nanda graduated in Mechanical & Production engineering. He further pursued an MBA from the Open University Business School, Milton Keynes, UK, and has undergone extensive leadership training at GE Crotonville.
In his new role, Mr. Nanda will be responsible for driving the growth and profitability of Tata Power’s renewable energy portfolio, which encompasses solar, wind, hybrid, and B2C green energy solutions. He will also lead innovation and digital transformation initiatives in the renewable energy sector.

The key leadership change at Tata Power is to bring focus in different business and growth areas, with Mr. Ashish Khanna, a Tata Power veteran, moving as President to the important part of the Generation business cluster, which includes the company’s upcoming pumped hydro storage plants, hydro plants, and other new initiatives apart from the existing hydro and thermal plants in India and abroad.
