Tata Power-led Odisha Discoms strengthen local supply chain to support ‘Make in Odisha’; Award contracts worth ~₹16,000 crore to local vendors
Bhubaneswar, 05 August 2025: In a major boost to Odisha’s local economy and industrial ecosystem, Tata Power-led Odisha Discoms—joint ventures with the Government of Odisha, have awarded contracts worth ₹15,944 crore to local vendors and contractors over the past 4-5 years. These contracts form the operational backbone of TP Central, TP Southern, TP Northern, and TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited, with over 17,672 orders significantly contributing to regional employment and entrepreneurship.
Of the total contracts awarded, 58% have gone to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), underlining the Discoms’ commitment to supporting local enterprises. These engagements span a wide spectrum of operational needs including material procurement and service delivery, and involve over vendors from across the state. The contracts cover critical infrastructure works across CAPEX, OPEX, government-funded projects, and the Commercial & Industrial (C&I) segment’s power infrastructure requirements. The material supply segment with Local BAs—including Distribution Transformers, Cables, Poles, LT and HT hardware, laptops, desktops, and other key equipment alone accounts for nearly ₹2,500 crore in awards.
Beyond the numbers, these partnerships reflect a deliberate focus on local capacity building and grassroots employment generation. Vendors are encouraged to recruit from surrounding communities, thereby creating direct income streams and enhancing skill development at the local level. This initiative aligns closely with the Government of Odisha’s ‘Make in Odisha’ vision—fostering a self-reliant, robust supply ecosystem and catalysing sustainable economic growth in the power sector.
