The excitement surrounding Tiger 3, the latest addition to Aditya Chopra’s YRF Spy Universe, has reached a fever pitch as fans eagerly await its release on November 12. Starring Bollywood heavyweights Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, what sets Tiger 3 apart is its departure from the conventional Friday release, opting instead for a Sunday premiere on the auspicious occasion of Laxmi Puja/Diwali. This unconventional move has raised eyebrows, prompting the Vice President of Distribution for Yash Raj Films, Rohan Malhotra, to shed light on the rationale behind this strategic decision.

In an exclusive interview with India Today, Rohan Malhotra delved into the unique release strategy employed by YRF for Tiger 3. Drawing parallels with the release of Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, which hit theaters on a Wednesday, a day before Republic Day, Malhotra emphasized the studio’s commitment to focusing on the lifetime collections of a film rather than fixating on opening day numbers.

Malhotra articulated, “I always believe that it is absolutely fine to do the conventional and there is no need to reinvent if there is no need for it. In this case, however, what came to our mind was that it is important for us not to look at the opening day numbers but to focus on what is eventually going to benefit, and in the case of Tiger 3, we definitely felt that going on Laxmi Puja day, which is considered the weakest day to release a film, would be a better fit for our film.”

The decision to release Tiger 3 on a day traditionally deemed weak for box office performances stems from the success of Pathaan’s unconventional release on Republic Day. Malhotra recalled, “This came to us for the simple reason that at the start of the year, we had a film like Pathaan. Had we followed the conventional way, we would have released the film on Republic Day, where we were definitely assured a certain number. But at YRF, we focused on the lifetime business of the film, and we came a day earlier. It worked like a dream. We got insane numbers.”

Expressing confidence in Tiger 3, Malhotra reiterated that YRF believes in the exceptional quality of the film and trusts Salman Khan’s star power to draw audiences to theaters. Helmed by Maneesh Sharma and featuring Emraan Hashmi in a pivotal role, Tiger 3 is poised to make a mark by defying norms and focusing on the long-term success of the film rather than the immediate buzz of its release.

As Tiger 3 gears up for its unconventional release on Laxmi Puja day, YRF’s innovative approach continues to challenge the status quo of Bollywood release strategies. By prioritizing the lifetime collection over opening day numbers, the studio is set to create a new narrative in the industry, backed by the star power of Salman Khan and the promise of an exceptional cinematic experience in Tiger 3.
