TPWODL Powers Progress in Western Odisha with More Than 4.5 Lakh New Connections in Five Years
Burla, September 19, 2025: TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWODL), a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, has transformed the power landscape of Western Odisha by providing more than 4.5 lakh new electricity connections in the past five years. This achievement has significantly expanded access to reliable electricity for households, farmers, businesses, industries, and institutions across the region, reaffirming TPWODL’s commitment to inclusive growth and sustainable development.
Between January 2021 and August 2025, TPWODL extended new connections across domestic, commercial, industrial, agricultural, and institutional categories. Domestic consumers emerged as the largest beneficiaries, with more than 3 lakh households electrified during this period, bringing light and progress to families in both urban and rural areas. Commercial establishments also benefitted, with nearly 50,000 new connections supporting the growth of businesses in towns and semi-urban clusters.
The farming community witnessed a major boost with nearly 65,000 agricultural consumers brought into the power network, ensuring timely access to electricity for irrigation and allied needs. Industrial growth too received a push, as more than 4,000 new connections were extended to industries, strengthening regional production and employment opportunities. In addition, over 31,000 connections were provided to government institutions and public service facilities such as schools, hospitals, and colleges, underlining TPWODL’s role in supporting essential services and social infrastructure.
Importantly, the process of applying for a new connection has become much simpler and consumer-friendly. With multiple channels like- TPWODL officials’ website, Mo Bidyut Portal, Common Services Centres for online apply; also, a consumer can visit nearest section office or Customer Care Centre located in Sambalpur to apply a new electricity connection. The turnaround time for new connections has also improved significantly, enabling faster electrification for households, businesses, and farms across Western Odisha.
Year-on-year growth remained steady, reflecting the company’s consistent efforts to meet increasing electricity demand despite operational challenges.
