Odisha Vigilance Nabs Junior Engineer with ₹2.03 Lakh Suspicious Cash on NH-16
Bhubaneswar, 21.03.2025 – Acting on reliable information regarding the collection of bribe money from contractors, Odisha Vigilance today intercepted Sri Bhimasen Maharana, Junior Engineer (JE), RD Division, Jaraka, Kuakhia Section, Jajpur, while he was traveling with suspected ill-gotten cash.
A Vigilance team apprehended Sri Maharana on NH-16 near Tangi Toll Gate, Cuttack, while he was en route from his office to his native village Bentapurasasan, PS-Balianta, Dist-Khordha in his personal vehicle, a Hyundai i-20 (Regd. No. OD-02-T-8814).
During the interception, a sum of ₹2,03,940/- (suspected bribe money) was recovered from his possession. As he failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the source of the cash, the money along with his vehicle was seized.
Following this, simultaneous searches are underway at three locations linked to Sri Maharana to probe any disproportionate assets. The investigation is ongoing to determine the source and purpose of the recovered cash.
