TPCODL’s Smart vs. Static Meter Comparison Display Initiative Draws Large Customer Turnout, Reinforcing Trust, Transparency and Accuracy
Bhubaneswar, 29th January 2026: TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL) has witnessed strong consumer participation and positive engagement following the rollout of its Smart vs. Static Meter Comparison Display Initiative across Customer Care Centres in its operational areas.
The initiative, designed to build awareness and consumer trust, enabled customers to physically compare smart meters with static meters operating under the same electrical load. Through real-time, side-by-side demonstrations, consumers were able to clearly understand the functioning and accuracy of smart meters.
Large numbers of consumers visited the display centres, where the demonstrations clearly established that smart meters operate on the same metering principles as static meters and record electricity consumption with accuracy. The initiative effectively addressed common misconceptions by reinforcing that smart meters do not inflate electricity usage or billing but instead enhance transparency.
One of the many consumers visiting the display centre, Mr. Sourav Patra, resident of Gopabandhu Nagar, said, “Seeing the smart meter display alongside the static meter gave me complete clarity. The readings were transparent and easy to understand, and it helped me clearly see how the smart meter functions. This initiative has removed all my doubts and increased my confidence in the system.”
Echoing similar sentiments, Mr. Sajjan Poddar, a consumer residing in Nayapalli, said, “I have not faced any issues with smart meters. Consumers can easily reach out to the company in case they have any problems, and all faults are addressed promptly and swiftly. The quick response and transparency give consumers confidence and peace of mind. With progress of technology, we have started using smart watches so why can’t we install smart meters?”
Smart meters enable automated meter reading and timely, error-free billing while also providing consumers with real-time visibility into their electricity usage. This empowers them to optimise consumption patterns and manage monthly electricity expenses more effectively.
The initiative aligns with TPCODL’s broader vision of delivering technology-driven, transparent and consumer-centric power distribution services, while supporting the state’s push towards large-scale smart meter adoption to improve billing efficiency and overall consumer experience.
TPCODL remains committed to empowering consumers through awareness, technology and service excellence, reinforcing its philosophy of building trust through transparency and proactive engagement.
