In a heart-breaking incident, two Indian Air Force (IAF) pilots lost their lives on Monday when their Pilatus trainer aircraft crashed during a routine training session at the Air Force Academy in Dundigal, Telangana. The casualties include an experienced instructor and a cadet, marking a somber day for the nation’s defence forces.

The IAF released a statement confirming the unfortunate incident, stating, “One Pilatus PC 7 Mk II trainer aircraft met with an accident today morning during a routine training sortie from AFA, Hyderabad. It is with deep regret that (the) IAF confirms that both the pilots on board have sustained fatal injuries.” The crash occurred during what was expected to be a routine training sortie, highlighting the inherent risks associated with military aviation.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed his condolences on social media, taking to X to share his sentiments. “Anguished by this accident near Hyderabad. It is deeply saddening that two pilots have lost their lives. In this tragic hour, my thoughts are with the bereaved families,” he wrote, acknowledging the gravity of the loss and extending sympathies to the families affected by the tragedy.

Remarkably, no reports of damage to property or injuries to civilians have emerged from the crash site, underscoring the IAF’s commitment to ensuring the safety of civilians and infrastructure even in the face of such unfortunate incidents.

As per standard protocol, a Court of Inquiry has been initiated to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and to ascertain the cause of this tragic accident.
