Burla, 21 April 2026: In a major milestone towards clean energy adoption and consumer savings, TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWODL) has enabled over 10,885 households to record zero electricity bills in March 2026, driven by the rapid expansion of rooftop solar installations across its operational area.

The growing momentum under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, coupled with TPWODL’s innovative one kW Utility Led Aggregation (ULA) Model, has significantly accelerated rooftop solar adoption in Western Odisha. As of March 2026, a total of 18,830 consumers have installed rooftop solar systems, marking a strong shift towards sustainable and self-reliant energy consumption.

These figures indicate that nearly 60% of consumers with rooftop solar installations are now receiving zero electricity bills. The remaining 40% of consumers are able to reduce their monthly electricity bills by more than 80%, highlighting the substantial financial benefits of solar adoption.

A notable highlight is the performance of TPWODL’s 1 kW ULA Model, which has made solar adoption more accessible and affordable for households. In March 2026 alone, 1,428 consumers under this model recorded zero electricity bills, clearly demonstrating the direct financial benefits of decentralized solar energy.

It is worth noting that under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, financial assistance from both the state and central governments is available for installing solar panels. By installing 3 kilowatt solar panels worth Rs. 2 lakhs, a consumer can get financial assistance of up to Rs. 1.38 lakh. Similarly, the installation of 2 kW solar panels worth Rs. 1.40 lakh, consumers receive assistance of up to ₹1.10 lakh, significantly reducing the upfront investment burden.

Under TPWODL’s special 1 kW ULA Model, eligible consumers can install rooftop solar by paying only ₹1,875. TPWODL undertakes the complete installation process and provides a five-year warranty on equipment and a 25-year performance warranty on solar panels, ensuring long-term reliability and performance assurance.

All rooftop solar systems are integrated with smart meters to ensure accurate energy accounting and seamless coordination between household consumption and solar generation.
