Burla/Bargarh, May 7, 2025: A devastating Kalbaishakhi storm struck Bargarh district on May 3rd, 2025 around evening, causing extensive damage to the region’s power infrastructure. The high-speed winds brought down over 200 trees onto power lines, damaged 67 electricity poles, snapped 50 conductors, destroyed around 25 circuit kilometres of 11kV feeder lines, and completely damaged a 100 kVA distribution transformer (DTR), which leading to widespread power outages across several villages in Bargarh District.

Approximately 5,000 electricity consumers across Launsara in Bargarh Block; Pipilipali, Patkulunda, Buromunda, and Kainsir in Barpali Block; and Padhanpali, Salepali, Aregudi, and Anilapali in Bheden Block were affected.

TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWODL) immediately mobilized its emergency maintenance and section teams. A total of 60 personnel were deployed to restore power supply under challenging conditions, working tirelessly around the clock. Due to their prompt and dedicated efforts, 90% of the restoration work was successfully completed within 48 hours.

However, restoration activities are still underway in the worst-hit villages of Salepali and Padhanpali, under the jurisdiction of Barpali No. 2 Section. TPWODL expects to fully restore power in these areas very soon.

TPWODL sincerely thanks the people of Bargarh district for their patience and cooperation during this difficult period. We remain steadfast in our commitment to ensuring a safe and speedy restoration of power, even amidst severe weather challenges.
