Bhubaneswar: World Acidity Day is being celebrated in a spectacular manner this year. The Day was celebrated with the unique sand art of Padma Shri Sudarsan Pattnaik at Puri beach. While this sand art has caught the attention of the people, it has played an important role in creating awareness among the people about acidity.

Acidity has emerged as a major health problem due to the changing lifestyle of the people. Acidity is caused by fast lifestyle, unbalanced diet and other factors, which in turn lead to many complex health problems.

World Acidity Day is being celebrated to commemorate the contribution of Dr. Sorensen, who devised the pH formula to express acidity. World Acidity Day is celebrated on the birth anniversary of Dr. Sorensen.

This sand art, created by Padma Shri Sudarsan pattnaik at Puri beach, is a joint effort of Dr. Reddy’s, more than 50,000 doctors and the Association of Physicians of India. This sand art reflects how joyful an acidity-free lifestyle is. This will prove to be crucial in starting discussions about acidity in our society.

Speaking on the occasion, Padma Shri Sudarsan Patnaik said, “Every person in India has experienced acidity and it affects everyday life. Although this is a big problem, there is not much discussion about it. The Acidity Symbol, designed in the context of celebrating World Acidity Day, which was first launched on January 9, 2024, will affect a large section of society. This sand art has been designed to create awareness about acidity. I hope this will help every Indian to talk about acidity and take steps to deal with it appropriately. I wish everyone in India a happy acidity-free life.
