Tata Steel Foundation Partners with Odisha Govt to establish Multi Skill Centre in Jajpur
Kalinganagar: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed today between Tata Steel Foundation (TSF) and the Government of Odisha to establish a Multi Skill Development Centre (MSDC) in Jajpur district at the World Skill Center here.
Shri Sarada Prasanna, Block Development Officer of Danagadi, Jajpur, and Sourav Roy, Chief Executive Officer, Tata Steel Foundation, signed the MoU at the World Skill Centre, Bhubaneswar, in the presence of Shri Pritiranjan Gharai, Hon’ble Minister of Rural Development, Skill Development, and Technical Education, Government of Odisha.
Present on the ocassion were Alka Misra, Chairperson, Odisha Skill Development Authority, Ambika Prasad Nanda, Head, CSR (Odisha), Tata Steel Foundation and Captain Amitabh, Head, Skill Development, Tata Steel Foundation.
The MSC is poised to benefit youth from underserved communities in Danagadi and Sukinda blocks, aiming to offer industry-specific training courses to bolster employment prospects. Under the agreement, Tata Steel Foundation will collaborate with the Government of Odisha to establish the necessary infrastructure for short-term skill training courses specifically in the Danagadi block of Jajpur.
Speaking on the occasion, Sourav Roy, CEO, Tata Steel Foundation, said, “The purpose of setting up the MSDC is to enable access to employment opportunities for youth where they are most needed. The facility is aimed at addressing the needs of the youth to become financially independent. With the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Banspal, Keonjhar, and other similar skill development institutions and training centres established in Sukinda and Gopalpur, the MSDC will assist the youth in securing placements that align with their talents. We extend our gratitude to Government of Odisha and the district administrations for the trust they have in us and extending the assistance in making this possible.”
The MSC will provide vocational training tailored to the needs of local youth, ensuring industry readiness and employability upon completion. Additionally, it will offer counselling, encourage entrepreneurial ventures, and focus on foundational skills development such as English proficiency, soft skills, and digital literacy to enhance placement support. Furthermore, the centre will feature a special laboratory dedicated to providing skill training and awareness to school students in line with the National Education Policy.
