KIMS Cancer Centre Observes World Cancer Day
Bhubaneswar: Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) and Cancer Centre on Sunday marked World Cancer Day by holding several awareness initiatives.
In the morning, the Founder of KIIT and KISS Dr. Achyuta Samanta flagged off a walkathon with impressive participation of doctors, nurses, staff, and students.
A street play was also organised, spreading awareness about cancer-related issues. On the eve of the Cancer Day celebration on Saturday, a door-to-door awareness drive was organised in Niladri Vihar, Bhubaneswar, to educate society about cancer prevention and early detection.
The focus was on dispelling myths and fostering a positive mindset towards cancer patients.
The campaign was held under the leadership of Dr Jogamaya Pattnaik, Associate Professor at KIMS Cancer Centre. She emphasized the importance of a healthy lifestyle, regular check-ups, and early identification of symptoms to combat the growing menace of cancer.
Every year, World Cancer Day is observed with a dedicated theme. This year’s theme, ‘Close the Care Gap,’ was chosen to address the disparities in cancer care. KIMS Cancer Centre took this opportunity not only to raise awareness but also to emphasize the need for accessible and quality cancer care.
Senior Consultants, Surgical Oncologist Dr. Subyasachi Parida, and Dr. Sachin Vishwakarma, along with other prominent doctors from KIMS actively participated in enlightening the audience about cancer-related issues. The event stressed the significance of early intervention and effective treatment modalities.
